New York Life employees offer inspiration to Girls Who Code community.

New York Life | October 20, 2023

Two leading New York Life technologists recently shared inspiration and insights with the community of Girls Who Code (GWC), an international nonprofit organization on a mission to close the gender gap in technology.

The below quote from Suzette Grant, Corporate Vice President, Identity Access Management Operations, was shared with GWC’s over one million followers across LinkedInX (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram.

“Be focused and flexible. Be seen and heard. Express your doubt. You'll learn to be creative and understand how the technology works behind the scenes. You'll develop logical thinking that can deliver innovations that will change society for the better. Be fierce but humble. Be that piece of the puzzle that completes the full picture with other girls and women like you!”

Additionally, Vazia Grissom, Associate, Identity Access Management engineer, recently contributed a video about her personal journey to a career in technology to be used as part of GWC’s curriculum. The video is available to the organization’s 3,000 clubs across the country to spark reflection and discussion, especially as it relates to the core character strengths of GWC’s programming, namely, bravery, resilience, creativity, and purpose.

In the piece, Vazia explains how her career in cybersecurity was launched when she joined the Year Up program, which led to an internship and eventually a full-time position at New York Life where she benefits from the company’s tuition reimbursement program and Technology’s learning stipend offering to further advance her career. An excerpt of the full video can be found above.

Since launching in 2012, Girls Who Code has reached over 14 billion engagements globally and supported 580,000 girls, women, and nonbinary individuals in learning to code. Over half of the young women served by GWC come from historically underrepresented groups.

Aligned by a commitment to closing the gender gap in technology, New York Life is a proud GWC sponsor.
